7 ...coasts on just enough narrative to give its central trio reasons to co-exist and get into trouble and, by way of moral instruction, calm down and treat each other and their objects of desire a little more humanely.

7 ...the truth is it's just "good," an assessment that may be okay for the average teen comedy, but disappointing for a movie arriving on such a tide of comic enthusiasm.

10 Every generation seems to have one iconic movie comedy that gets to a special place, is talked about endlessly, quoted nonstop, seen over and over, and lives on forever as a true classic of its times. For this generation, Superbad is going to be that film.

First 25 minutes are some of the best comedic filmmaking you'll ever see, then it limps along for over an hour until picking back up at the end. Needed an editor; shoulda been 90 minutes tops. On the plus side, Jonah Hill is the closest thing I've seen to John Belushi, since, well, John Belushi.

One thing about the Apatow comedies: in spite of all the crude geek fantasy stuff, there's a squishy middle always to be found. He's a romantic softie at heart.

The things that I liked about this movie is the best parts weren't in the previews and the humor showed depth/creativity in the writing.

The movie starts off with a steady drum roll of humor and keeps it rolling. You will know if this movie is for you in the first 5 minutes. Instantly funny. It did feel a little long but it didn't get old.

lalligood  8

I'm in line with what dack & schrowa have to say. Often funny, a little long through the middle, well acted, & geeky-with-a-heart.

sme  9

A raunchy teen comedy that treats the ladies with respect. getouttahere

Now that I've been trying to miss my blind spots of the year, I can now say that Superbad is one the best comedies of the year -- except that, surprisingly, this one has a true heart. Like Dack and lalligood said, that is the beauty of Apatow comedies: it strips down the superficial crap to dig into something much more profound.

So much fun. Goofy and likeable.

chunkbot  7

I liked it, but it has not stood up to repeat viewings the way that say, the Big Lebowski has.

It made me feel old. I felt like the crabby old guy that tells kids to turn their music down. I just couldn't enjoy the locker room humor as much as everyone else seemed to. It wasn't a bad movie. I did laugh... but I kept waiting for the comedy bar to be raised as soon as they got the no-brow stuff out of the way. It didn't happen.

A somewhat long 115 minutes. Not so long that you check your watch and start to get uncomfortable... but long.
